I wasn’t glued to the book, but it had enough fuel to entice me to finish it. I enjoyed the opportunity to kind of experience Aiden’s take on things. I think I found what I was looking for. I can’t and will not judge his choices and patterns but I will say I always find it interesting how some actors/actresses pull partners from the same line of business; it was interesting that (most of) Aiden’s boyfriends seemed to be in some way tied to the whole porn/prostitution/drug ring.
There’s no doubt that physical attraction has a lot to do with anyone’s selection of a potential mate, but I wonder if Aiden would ever consider investing more faith, time or energy in someone with different interests. Trying to keep an open mind to the fact that obviously he likes the sex,drugs,porno,prostitution thing from a financial standpoint but also for personal recreation, I would assume you would have to find a partner into the same stuff and to me I would expect jealousy would always be an issue. I also sense a lack of commitment or sacrifice. Two elements I consider essential building blocks for any relationship. But again, who am I?
Thought his work to allow the reader a chance to experience a side of him everyone hasn’t “seen” was well done. For that and for his contribution to sharing the whole gay experience I applaud him.

The person who wrote the main Amazon review clearly misunderstood Shaw. I hate to think they might influence other people, especially if they turn young readers away. Those inexperienced in Shaw’s world can learn a lot from his brave portrayal of how not to live life. He does this not by preaching, but in a much more clever way, Shaw shows from the inside, the pit falls, the drug come-downs, and the ruined relationships that can coincide with the lifestyle he chose. My Undoing is refreshing, heartbreakingly honest, sincere, very funny, and most of all very well written. He puts himself on the line, while most prefer to hide behind pretense and propriety.

There is no deeper meaning, he warns you from the start so read this book for any other reason! Taste him, feel him, touch him, be him, read about a life you do not have! Maybe do not even want! I like him and I love reading his work. I truly enjoy sensing his music, Whatever! Listen to them late at night in your own personal space!

I couldn’t put this book down, because I was anticipating the turning point, where Mr. Shaw realized that his life of sex and party drugs was ruining his life. Shockingly, that time never arrived. Shaw is against taking a prescribed anti-depressant because it interferes with his sexual potency, but he has not hesitation taking cocaine, crystal meth, and LSD on a regular basis, which can’t help his HIV status too much. He does a lot of crying and very little introspection. There are numerous relationships with toxic people, most of whom he thinks are his friends.
I am curious as to what the author thinks his “undoing” really is. In my opinion, his undoing is the fact that he is totally unable to realize how dysfunctional his life is and how much he needs to change it.
