Clinician’s Guide to Mind Over Mood

MECHANISTIC,BUT HELPFUL.IF YOU ARE DESPERATE,TRY IT.IT IS GUARANTEED NOT TO MAKE YOU WORSE,THOUGH IT MAY MAKE YOU BETTER.
NOT MUCH OF A BOOK,THOUGH…BUT HELPFUL…ITS OK…

This book seems an afterthought to the self-help book, and a very poorly written and edited one at that.
There is little or no clinical wisdom here. One is left wondering how much client contact Padesky has.
It would be mind-numbing to use the book in real-life clinical practice… “turn to p 33… turn to p 45… turn to p 79…” .
Not recommended.

I was so excited to get this book and then realized it was really advertising for the book clients are to use. If you flip through this book you will see on each page the authors site their book SO MANY TIMES…. we are educated people and they can’t stop citing the book we are reading. Not very helpful sadly.

As a clinicians guide it is a bit simplistic – but good none the less.

As a clinical social worker and marriage and family therapist, I have found that there is a certain portion of my client population that responds best to cognitive behavioral therapy. Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think is the best client resource I have found in terms of its clarity, efficacy and outcome. The Clinician’s handbook is excellent.
I recommend the Clinician’s handbook only for seasoned therapists, not for clients. I took a course with one of the authors before I even tried using the handbook. Additionally, I had been utilizing CBT for more than a decade. I think that clients who try to use the Clinician’s Guide on their own will find it frustrating. It is best to do this work with a trained therapist.
