This book had all of the markings of a good true story, but it was written more like a diary, and not a very interesting one at that. A lot of it did not ring true.

I like this book. I agree with the positive reviews here, but the book is not 100% flawless. Saint appears to be a numerologist: he assigns a mystical significance to every number he encounters, ascribing it to destiny or fate. It makes him seem needlessly superstitious, although his musings don’t seem to affect his actions or the story in any way.
Also, the book’s layout, jumping between three and sometimes four time periods, with flashbacks within flashbacks, is somewhat confusing. I’d have liked an editor to go over it again.

i was surprised that being a christian, no one has ever told me the story of the five missionary men slain by the waodani tribe, so when i heard about this book through an interview with the author steve saint i got straight on to amazon and grabbed a copy. i loved the story based on the son (the author)of one of the men killed in the jungle, and his life and forgiveness of the men who killed his dad. this is an amazing story, which will challenge the way we live in the modern, complicated world, when the language, and path of god is so simple and with in reach of the most unsophisticated people.

I’m planning a trip to Equador. Someone had suggested this book to read before I go. I’ve only read a few pages, but am finding it very interesting. Since it is a true story, I am really finding it a good read.
