I was looking forward to reading this book with my women’s Bible study group. I read the first chapter and decided I hated it. Stormie is a martyr, has a negative outlook and lets her husband walk all over her. This is a book only for women who hate their husbands and want to live life as a martyr.

I was looking for a book that would help me pray for my husband who is a wonderful person. He treats me with respect and listens to me. Stormie makes it seem like you can’t pray for a man who doesn’t abuse you and make you cry everyday.

I’ve been with a man like that and if I’d married him (Thank God I didn’t) Stormie would suggest I let him hit me, call me foul names, etc. while looking for where I was to blame. However, while I’ve grown spiritually and become more prayerful in my life since then I am not fundamentally different. I have the same flaws I’ve always had and my husband has never called me names or touched me with anything other than loving hands.

Also as far as his sexuality goes, I’ve been on antidepressants that severely affected my sex drive. I’ve since changed medications, but through my three months of struggle my husband constantly sought ways to help ME because we kept the lines of communication open. I felt guilty enough about my lack of feeling and Stormie would have made me seem selfish when my body felt dead.

I am not saying that there aren’t things we can change about ourselves that would make our lives and marriages better. Prayer is a wonderful way to seek God’s guidance in how to handle a situation. But we must be willing to listen to God when he calls for action as well as for inaction. We need to be willing to handle the situation.

If you are screaming at your husband, then “shut up and pray!” but after you’ve calmed down it is time to address your issues head on. Communication is essential in marriage along with prayer. My husband works long hours and is often travelling for business but he is ALWAYS home when he says he will be give or take 15 minutes. There is no excuse for the disrespect of abandoning your family without notice. There is no excuse for harsh, angry words. There is no excuse for violence. And I ask and pray that women do not pray to accept those aspects of their husbands.

AND NEVER LET HIM HURT YOU! Pray for his heart to soften. Pray for his healing, but do that from a safe distance.

This book provided insightful suggestions for praying for your husband in 30 areas of his life. It includes teaching about praying the Scriptures. It works well as a day-by-day prayer guide or to read in a few days.

I owe a lot to this book. I have read it several times and it has helped me and my fiancee so much in our courtship. I has helped me draw closer to God which is the most important and it has helped with bad coworker relationships. I am now ordering many copies of this and Power of a Praying Husband for all my newly married friends. Just by owing this book it will not make your life and marriage better. However by reading it and applying it’s teaching you can see God move in all aspects of your life and His help and love CAN save your life and marriage. even if you have a great relationship with your better half still read this it can make it a thousand times better while helping a couple avoid potential arguments!
