Educational Research: An Introduction

What can I say except research is boring…..needed this book for a class in my Masters program, made an A in the course but not because of the book since we hardly opened it……

I am not big on Government intervention, but this was a textbook – as good as any others – but all textbooks are way too expensive. It becomes a sort of monopoly (and a tax on students that is unavoidable).
My PhD is in Instructional Technology – so I had to purchase this book. Perhaps my IT bias leads me to my conclusion — we should not have to pay this much money for a paper book.
Finally, I come to this conclusion even though the money for all of my textbooks are provided by my scholarship. Students are already saddled with extraneous costs — costs that are piled upon by publishers of textbooks.

As a life long learner, an experienced practioner and graduate student (again), I throughly enjoy my professional library. However, I have two books that I would never have purchased if I had not had to – Editions 7 and 8 of Educational Research. This is a mind-numbing traditional textbook. The authors write with an officious, academic style. While they have tried to incorporate qualitiatve research into their work, the positivist bias is so strong that it comes across as condensending. Also as an older learner, I find the type set and page layout difficult to read. There are so many better books, I would not buy this one if you can avoid it.
